Hayes Higgins Partnership provided Civil and Structural Engineering Services and Design and Supervision Services for this project which was constructed under the GCCC Form of Contract.

The project consisted of an exiting extension to the existing Barrow Sports Centre, with new interconnecting atrium to a 2 storey building to the East and South consisting of Health Centre, Student Services Centre, Student Union Accommodation, Sports Changing Facilities, Staff Facilities, Fitness Suite, Gym, Associated Changing and Sanitary facilities, Activity Spaces, and 2 No Lecture Theatres.

The proposed structure was constructed in reinforced concrete with exposed surfaces throughout. The floors were of flat slab construction throughout and the extension joined the existing building through a Glass Link. This project was completed in October 2012.

Innovation:

This structure was designed to be constructed over three floors in reinforced concrete with glass link to the existing building. The building incorporates 3.0m cantilevers over two floors.
