Hayes Higgins Partnership provided Civil and Structural Engineering Services and Design and Supervision Services for this project which was constructed under the Government Construction Contracts Committee Form of Contract.

This project consisted of the construction of a primary school building comprising of an 8 Classroom, two storey building with support teaching spaces and ancillary accommodation with a total floor area of 1,100m² on a site with an overall area of 10,550m². The site works to the school grounds involved of the provision of cycle storage, bin stores, ball courts, project gardens, landscaping and boundary treatment and all other associated site development works. The works to the remainder of the site consisted of the provision of 22No. car parking spaces, drop-off and pick-up facilities.

The total onsite build time was 24 weeks. To achieve the fast track system required for this project the structural frame was built off-site using a light-weight steel frame system. A key advantage of building off-site is the higher degree of predictability it can offer, reducing the risk of time and cost overruns

Sustainability

Off-site manufacturing works in hand with sustainability for the following reasons:

  • Up to 67 per cent less energy is required to produce a system build project compared to an equivalent traditionallybuilt project.

  • Off-site manufacturing can generate up to 90 per cent fewer vehicle movements to site, reducing carbon emissions, congestion and disruption.

  • Off-site construction can reduce on-site waste by up to 90 per cent.
